Theodore Cavaliere: Corporate Senior Internal Auditor

Theodore Cavaliere worked for years as the Senior Internal Auditor of Philip Morris Management, assessing the company’s control, governance and risk management in the areas of budgeting, accounting, investment and finance. When reflecting on the position, Theodore Cavaliere remembers it as a “great job... where I gained a lot of experience in doing thorough audits, and really overseeing the big picture of managing finance and accounting within a large company.”

He reports enjoying being able to analyze large swaths of data, and the insights he developed on the causes and risk factors for financial growth and major financial decisions and investments in a company by examining the patterns over time resulting from the company’s financial decisions. “It was an honor to work for such a large and well-respected company... I really felt supported by the upper level management at Philip Morris, and the employees I was supervising were really on point... they really hire the best of the best at Philip Morris.”

When reflecting on his Philip Morris employment experience, Theodore Cavaliere comments that he “would definitely like to do auditing work again” and that being able to work with such large amounts of data was “fascinating.” Philip Morris, one of the world’s largest companies producing cigarettes and tobacco products, was founded in 1847. Theodore Cavaliere was drawn to the company in particular because of their long history of successful business and creative sales and advertising campaigns. Theodore Cavaliere felt that there is much to learn in particular from well-established, long-lasting companies that have grown into some of the world’s largest corporations. Theodore Cavaliere has since recommended other young finance professionals that he has mentored and supported for positions at Philip Morris. Though he has moved on from the position to new jobs, he is grateful for the experience and to have maintained positive relations with the company.

Theodore Cavaliere Management at Gilman & Ciocia

Theodore Cavaliere, an experienced business and finance professional, spent years working as a Branch Manager for Gilman & Ciocia, a company that assists middle and upper-middle class income taxpayers with tax preparation and financial planning. Gilman & Ciocia formed in 1981 and has since grown into a very well-respected company; Gilman & Ciocia is consistently rated among the top 35 accounting firms in the “Top 100 Firms” list of Accounting Today.

Theodore Cavaliere describes being drawn to work at Gilman & Ciocia because of its reputation as a client-oriented business that focuses on truly meeting the needs of their customers. As a finance professional with a sales background, Theodore Cavaliere recognizes the importance of centering client needs in any business model. Gilman & Ciocia’s emphasis on combining “hometown integrity” with the resources of a major financial firm is just one example of this client-oriented business model.

Theodore Cavaliere feels this focus is important in a world where financial literacy is becoming increasingly important and necessary in ordinary peoples’ lives, due to the need to navigate complex mortgages, loans, investments, taxes, and other financial products or investments – while the world of finance is always becoming ever-more complex and challenging to navigate. Theodore Cavaliere hopes to use his finance expertise and knowledge to help bridge this gap between average peoples’ needs and the demands of complex finance issues, and he sees his role in businesses like Gilman & Ciocia as helping to accomplish these goals.

Theodore Cavaliere, HavaTampa Cigar’s Manager of Sales and Marketing

Theodore Cavaliere appreciated branching out from finance and accounting into the world of sales and marketing when he was hired by HavaTampa Cigar. Theodore Cavaliere’s background is solidly in finance, with a BS in Public Accounting from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, and he holds numerous licenses and certifications including a Series 7 License, a Serious 65 License, and a Florida Insurance License to sell health and life insurance. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in New York. However, as these licenses have authorized Theodore Cavaliere to sell a variety of financial products and services including stocks, bonds, insurance, Variable/Fixed Annuities, and financial advice, he has developed a strong sales background through experience in selling finance-based products. Theodore Cavaliere was pleased to branch out officially into the sales and marketing world to continue building on this experience-based knowledge, thinking about ways that sales/marketing and finance/accounting skills mutually complement each other and build the basis for solid business success and skills.

Since working for HavaTampa Cigar, Theodore Cavaliere has become very knowledgeable about branding, product placement, consumer targeting, advertisement campaigns, and sales networking. Though HavaTampa is a cigar company, Theodore Cavaliere has found that marketing skills are broadly applicable across a range of different products. Therefore, he has developed specialized knowledge in marketing cigars and other high-quality tobacco products but is now well-qualified to manage sales and marketing projects for a broad range of companies and products. In the future, Theodore Cavaliere is considering developing and conducting workshops for other finance professionals who are making a transition into sales and marketing positions. He hopes to shed light on the various ways that finance and marketing backgrounds can mutually support each other for a successful business candidate. Theodore Cavaliere also hopes to work for similar companies in the future. He also worked as the Corporate Senior Internal Auditor for Philip Morris, a cigarette and tobacco company.

Coca Cola Enterprises, Senior Financial Analyst: Theodore Cavaliere

Theodore Cavaliere, as the Senior Financial Analyst for Coca Cola Enterprises, worked tirelessly to provide accurate analyses of Coca Cola’s securities and investments, producing reports on the viability of particular high-risk securities. Theodore Cavaliere was proud to be hired by Coca Cola, one of the most successful and visible multi-national corporations internationally and nationally. Because of the prominence of a company like Coca-Cola, and the size of its investments and securities, the work that Theodore Cavaliere did to analyze Coca-Cola’s securities and to advise upper level management on how to manage and invest those securities truly had an impact on the global economy.

Theodore Cavaliere was first drawn to financial analysis because of the increasingly financialized nature of the United States and global economy. Theodore Cavaliere wanted to develop his own literacy on assessing the risk and security of managing various types of financial investments and securities, and Coca-Cola Enterprises was the perfect opportunity to analyze such data on a large scale that had far-reaching impact. Theodore Cavaliere was promoted to the position of Senior Financial Analyst when his supervisors recognized his outstanding work and sharp analytical skills. Coca Cola Enterprises seeks to hire only the best financial analysts who have a natural talent for identifying critical risk and security factors when assessing investments, and Theodore Cavaliere demonstrated the necessary skills at a high level.

Theodore Cavaliere hopes to work for a company similar to Coca-Cola again in the future. He feels that the experience working for such a prominent multinational corporation was invaluable both in terms of the skills and experience he gained around financial analysis as well as the work environment for a corporation like Coca-Cola. Theodore Cavaliere has a BS in Public Accounting from Hofstra University and several licenses, including a Series 7 License and Series 65 License, which certify him to sell financial products such as insurance, stocks and bonds.

Advancing the Field of Finance: Theodore Cavaliere

Theodore Cavaliere, with over a decades’ worth of experience doing financial analysis, marketing and sales, auditing, and other accounting work for large and well-respected firms and corporations, is passionate about continuing his work in the field of finance. Theodore Cavaliere believes that the finance field is going in “exciting new directions because the structure of our economy is changing, and becoming increasingly financialized” and hopes to be a part of a generation of finance professionals who are doing innovative and transformative work in the field as new structures, needs and clientele continue to emerge.

Theodore Cavaliere reflects on his years working for companies such as Coca Cola Enterprises, Philip Morris and Gilman & Ciocia, noting “how much I’ve been able to learn and observe in those positions... really becoming aware of how the ways that business, finance and sales are intertwined is becoming really critical for the shape that our economic future is going to take.” Theodore Cavaliere believes that as financial products and business accounting becomes increasingly complex, the need for literacy on financial issues among non-finance specialists within and outside of the business world is simultaneously going to become more critical. Theodore Cavaliere suggests the need for “a robust focus on finance-related education for business professionals as well as the general public.” Theodore Cavaliere also asks those who work in the field to consider how political climates and government regulations or policies may impact finance work in the future. “These issues are rapidly evolving and very contentious these days... as specialists and as people who are highly educated on these issues, it’s our responsibilities to stay up to date on what’s going on and to think about how it may impact our companies and firms.” Theodore Cavaliere is dedicated to supporting economic growth and financial stability for individuals, companies, and on a broader national level, through providing thoughtful, holistic, and analytical financial services.

Theodore Cavaliere on Preparing for Exams

Theodore Cavaliere, with over a decades’ worth of experience in the field of finance and business, has a solid history of career success on top of his multiple licenses and certifications and proven track record of producing results for the companies that he has worked for. Theodore Cavaliere not only successfully passed all four parts of his Certified Public Accountant exams in New York the first time he took them – an uncommon feat for an exam that takes nearly 15 hours – but has also been promoted to and hired for senior level and management positions in large, well-respected corporations and firms such as Coca Cola Enterprises, Philip Morris, and Gilman & Ciocia. Theodore Cavaliere has also worked in a variety of positions, ranging from internal auditing to sales and marketing management, giving him both breadth and depth of experience in his field.

Theodore Cavaliere has always acknowledged that his success is largely due to the excellent support for his education that he received through his professors and peers at Hofstra University. He suggests that for young finance and accounting professionals just entering into the field, acquiring licenses is critical to success even if it often requires time-consuming and dedicated study. Theodore Cavaliere began preparing for his Certified Public Accountant exams well over a year beforehand, and he believes his steady but early preparation is what made him so familiar and comfortable with the material on the exam that he passed the first time sitting the exam. He also encourages young finance and accounting professionals to consider the importance of these preparatory and study-related skills for work in a field that largely relies on careful attention to and analysis of detailed, large data sets. Theodore Cavaliere is highly supportive of finance and accounting education and occasionally makes personal donations to universities with business and accounting programs.
